The Souks of Morocco are a shoppers' delight !  They vary in size and complexity depending on the city you are visiting; the best known ones are the Souks of Marrakesh and Fes/Fez.  There is nothing that you can not buy in the Souk. The sellers are gracious and shrewd after all, this mode of merchandising has been around for centuries.

The Souks date back to 110 BC existing at cross-roads for caravans to sell goods. But they were more than just a market place, it was also a socio-cultural connecting-point for festivals, communication, and goods. The Souks are generally divided up into smaller areas by specialty: Gold, Spices, Leather, vegitables, Dates, Olives, Clothes and Fabric, Animals and more.

In larger cities like Marrakesh the number of Souks can stretch for many winding miles. While the essence of antiquity, the Souks are connected to the 21st century! Bartering is the expected way to buy in a Souk – not to, is an insult to the seller. So bring your wish list and plenty of dirhams to Morroco and be ready to bargain for a special price.
